AUSTRALIAN actor David Gulpilil has won a prize for best actor at the Cannes Film Festival for his performance in Rolf de Heer’s Charlie’s Country. Gulpilil was awarded the prize in the Un Certain Regard competition, which honours more offbeat films than those up for the Palme d’Or.
Charlie’s Country received a standing ovation at its Cannes screening this week and the film, which was directed, produced and co-written (with Gulpilil) by fellow Australian de Heer, has been generating positive reviews. [...]
