Rapporter des paroles
LE DISCOURS DIRECT ET INDIRECT

On emploie le discours (ou style) indirect pour rapporter les paroles d'une personne. Pour cela, quelques modifications s'imposent.
Voici un exemple, extrait de la vidéo "Ruby Bridges".

1°) ENONCES AU STYLE DIRECT : "Direct speech"
1. Ruby Bridges thought: “I don’t understand why white people insult me”.
2. Her mother announced Ruby: “I am sorry, but today, I cannot accompany you to school; Tomorrow, I will be present”.
3. R B asked her parents: “Have you heard the people’s bad words? Must you stay really at home?”
4. She added and asked: “Are things going to change?”
5. The federal policeman ordered Ruby: “Follow me, don’t look at the crowd and don’t listen to them”.
2°) ENONCES AU STYLE INDIRECT : "Indirect speech"
1. Ruby Bridges thought that she didn't understand why white people insulted her.
2. Her mother announced Ruby that she was sorry, but that day she could not accompany her to school and that the day after she would be present.
3. R.B. asked them if they had heard the people’s bad words and if they really had to stay at home.
4. She added and asked if things were going to change.
5. The federal policeman ordered Ruby to follow him, not to look at the crowd and not to listen to them.
OBSERVATIONS: DANS LES ENONCES AU STYLE INDIRECT :
Les modifications suivantes sont été effectuées :
1) les guillemets ont disparu et
2) l'ajout de l'élément coordonnateur qui lie les 2 phrases :
THAT - phrase affirmative
IF - phrase interrogative, question
TO + verbe - impératif.
3) les pronoms personnels sujets et compléments,
